Elite Teams

For Advanced Level TCYBA Players

ELITE TEAMS (FORMERLY THE TCYBA REP TEAM PROGRAM)

The Elite Division at TCYBA is suited to advanced level players who wish to further develop their basketball skills in a more competitive atmosphere and are willing to commit to more practice time and a higher level of competition. If your son or daughter is new to basketball, then the Elite tryouts are usually not the best place for them to start their basketball experience. While the emphasis will still be on fun, friendship and sportsmanship, there will be a greater focus on competition and expectations of commitment will be higher for players. While we encourage all young players to be multi-sport athletes and will NOT ask anyone to quit another sport to focus solely on basketball, the Elite Division does expect a commitment to the entire season and a willingness to make all practices and games.

The number of teams participating at each age/gender level will be determined after tryouts are complete and player assessments are complete. The number of teams will be determined by the number of players who are assessed as being Elite level players.

Participation Cost

The cost to participate is approximately $700 per player at the U12 & U13 levels and $750.00 at U14 level. Payment will be required upon selection to a team. Funds will be payable via credit card payment through our Stack Sport registration system. As a Not for Profit organization, the Tri-City Youth Basketball Association charges only what it anticipates the overall costs of the Elite program will be.

***PLEASE NOTE*** Due to advance monetary commitments for league and tournament play, no refunds will be given for Elite team players. The only exception will be for a verified medical reason and if that player’s spot can then be filled on the roster at a pro-rated amount by another player designated by the coach to be a Elite caliber player.

In response to parent and player requests, TCYBA Elite team participants will now be able to purchase and keep their personal team uniforms for a one-time, no markup cost. This allows the team member to purchase their team uniform as they enter TCYBA’s Elite team programming and use it over multiple years of participation. This is a policy change in response to a large number of requests to keep uniforms, particularly as it relates to size, fit, uniform number and the ability to personally maintain the condition of uniforms.

While it is the intention and expectation of the TCYBA to once again have its teams participate in events held in the United States, there have been and continue to be changes to the United States transportation policies which could impact our teams travel opportunities. Various groups traveling to the U.S have recently found it necessary to re-evaluate whether they would continue to travel to the U.S. for events due to significant policy changes from US Customs and Border Protection. While it is the full intent of the TCYBA to have its teams participate in the U.S. next season, because of the uncertain nature of this evolving situation, we will continue to monitor developments as they happen and respond appropriately to confirm whether modifications to our travel schedule might be necessary.

Families who would prefer their child participate in games exclusively within Canada may choose to compete on one of TCYBA’s Elite B teams or register for a non-representative development team. These non-representative teams will have a full schedule of competition within the new Fall TCYBA Grade 7/8 competitive league or in our Development division.

Targeted Athlete - Academy for Competitive Excellence (ACE)

The Targeted Athlete - Academy for Competitive Excellence (ACE) is a TCYBA operated program that focuses on the skill enhancement of selected players in a High-Performance Environment.

The program has an impressive and experienced group of coaches, including Anthony Luyken and David Counsell. Anthony and David have both served as Canada Basketball / Basketball BC Centre for Performance, BC Targeted Athlete Strategy program and Basketball BC Provincial Team coaches.

Additional assistant coaches may be taking part in the ACE sessions to ensure an appropriate coach to player ratio is maintained.

While the ACE program is for more experienced players and is not suitable for players who haven’t played basketball previously, the most important factor in participating in the program is to simply be dedicated to improving your basketball skills and committed to attending the scheduled sessions.
