  • Fall / Winter Development League (Grade 3-12)

    Fall / Winter 2023-24 Registration

    PHASE 1: May 29 to June 4, 2023

    Returning Players registering to their same team from Fall / Winter 2022-23  

    Players wishing to change teams, whose team is not returning for the Fall / Winter season or who were registered for Spring 2023 only, will be required to register during Phase 2.

    PHASE 2: June 6 to June 11, 2023

    Returning Players from Fall / Winter 2022-23 and Spring 2023 may register to any team with available space

    If your child is new to TCYBA or did not register in the Fall / Winter 2022-23 or the Spring 2023 season, please do not register during this phase of registration. You can register beginning June 13.

    PHASE 3: June 13, 2023 - Ongoing to September

    Phase 3 is available for New Players and returning players who did not register during phase 1 or 2

    New players to TCYBA must register in the division where the grade they are entering in September is the higher grade listed in the team description – for example a new Grade 5 player to TCYBA must register at the Grade 4/5 level. Grade 4’s registering at the Grade 4/5 level must already have played at least one season in TCYBA and be physically ready to play with others that are their age and older.

    The same eligibility process applies to all age groups.

    For all phases of registration, your registration receipt, generated by our registration site Stack Sports, is not a confirmation of placement on a team. It is strictly to let you know we have received your application detailing the team information you are requesting. No registration is complete until you receive a second registration confirmation email from Stack Sports.

  • Fall Rookie Division (Kindergarten - Grade 1 & Grade 2/3)

    Fall 2023 Registration

    For Kindergarten to Grade 1: This program will be split into 3 sessions: Fall (approximately September to December), Winter (approximately January to March) and Spring (approximately April to June).

    For Gr 2/3: This program will be split into 3 sessions: Fall (approximately September to December), Winter (approximately January to March) and Spring (approximately April to June).

    The Fall Program will begin the first week of October and end after 11 practices. 

    The Winter Program will begin the week school resumes in January and end after 9 practices. 

    The Spring Program will begin the second week of April and end after 10 practices.

    A separate registration will need to be completed for each program.

    Who: For players in Kindergarten to Grade1 and Gr 2/3

    Program Duration: 9 practice sessions beginning the week of January 8 

    There are 3 different registration phases. Please read the following to determine the appropriate phase for you:

    Phase 1: November 12 to November 18

    Returning players registering to their same team from Winter 2023

    • Note: Spaces will only be held for players wishing to continue with their current team until midnight November 18
    • Note: Players wishing to change teams or who were registered in Fall 2022 or Spring 2023 only, will be required to register during Phase 2

    Phase 2: November 19 to November 25

    Returning players from Fall 2022, Winter 2023 and Spring 2023 may register to any team with available space.

    If your child is new to TCYBA or was not registered in the Fall 2022, Winter 2023 or Spring 2023 season, please do not register during this phase of registration. You can register beginning November 27.

    Phase 3: November 26 - Ongoing to January

    For new players and returning players who did not register during phase 1 or 2. You may register to any team with available space.

  • Spring Development League (Grade 3-12)

    Spring 2024 Registration

    PHASE 1: February 1 to February 4

    Returning Players registering to their same team from Fall / Winter 2023-24 

    Players wishing to change teams, will be required to register during Phase 2. Players that registered to play Spring 2023 will register during Phase 3

    PHASE 2: February 6 to February 11  

    Returning Players from Fall / Winter 2023-24 may register to any team with available space

    Players that registered to play Spring 2023 may register in Phase 3 starting February 13. New Players may register starting February 26.

    PHASE 3: February 13 to February 24

    Returning Players who registered to play in Spring 2023 and Fall / Winter 2023-24 may register to any team with available space 

    If you were not registered to play in Spring 2023 or Fall / Winter 2022-23, you may begin registering on February 26.

    New Player Registration: February 26 - Ongoing to April

    As of February 26, registration will be open to New Players and Returning Players

    New players to TCYBA must register in the division where the grade they are currently in is the higher grade listed in the team description – for example a new Grade 5 player to TCYBA must register at the Grade 4/5 level. Grade 4’s registering at the Grade 4/5 level must already have played at least one season in TCYBA and be physically ready to play with others that are their age and older.

  • Camps, Clinics & Academies

    TCYBA Grade 7/8 Prep Division Enhancement Sessions

    Players registered at the Grade 7/8 level participate in Tri-City Youth Basketball Association’s High School Prep Division program. At this level, participants take part in a practice and a game using full high school rules each week. 

    As an component of the TCYBA Grade 7/8 Prep division, all players will receive access to 4 sessions focusing on individual skill enhancement and development at no additional cost each Fall.

    These academy sessions are structured to develop and enhance player's individual skills, focusing on:

    • Footwork
    • Shot Preparation
    • Shooting Mechanics
    • Ball Handling
    • Passing
    • Decision Making

    The Head Coach for TCYBAs academy programs is Anthony Luyken, who has served as a coach for Canada Basketball / BBC Centre for Performance and Basketball BCs Provincial Team. Coach Luyken is a former Assistant Coach at the University of the Fraser Valley.

    Additional assistant coaches may be taking part in the academy sessions to ensure that an appropriate coach to player ratio is maintained. The most important factor in participating in the Academy program is to simply be dedicated to improvement and committed to attend the scheduled sessions.


    TCYBA Fall Skill Development Academy Training Programs

    Players from Kindergarten to Grade 12 registered in our Fall / Winter league will be offered skill-based, structured training sessions to develop and enhance player’s individual skills, focusing on:

    • Footwork
    • Shot preparation & Shooting mechanics
    • Ball handling & Attacking the Basket
    • Passing
    • Decision making
    • Return to Sport phase-based competition when allowable

    Please note fees for the TCYBA Skill Development Academy Training Programs are non-refundable.

    *Parents/players may apply for a full refund of registration fees, citing extraordinary circumstances. Such requests must be made in writing to the Board of Directors through the League Coordinator. The Board will consider such requests on an individual basis.


    TCYBA Holiday Hoops Camps

    TCYBA welcomes boys and girls from Grades 3-8 of all skill levels to attend our Holiday Hoops camp each December.

    The TCYBA Holiday Hoops camps are designed for players looking to develop and improve their athleticism and basketball skills. These camps focus on developing the basic ABC’S of sport (Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed) and fundamental basketball skill development, including:

    • Passing
    • Shooting
    • Ball Handling
    • Pivoting
    • Defense
    • Attack & Counter One on One Moves
    • Team Play

    The Head Coach for TCYBAs academy programs is Anthony Luyken. Anthony has served as a coach for Canada Basketball / BBC Centre for Performance and Basketball BCs Provincial Team coach. Coach Luyken is a former Assistant Coach at the University of the Fraser Valley.

    TCYBA Winter Skill Development Academy Training Programs

    TCYBA is pleased to offer our extremely popular Skill Development Performance Winter Academy for players registered in our Fall / Winter league.

    These sessions are for players of all levels who want to develop and enhance their individual ability, focusing on:

    • Footwork
    • Shot Preparation
    • Shooting Mechanics
    • Ball Handling
    • Passing
    • Decision Making

    Interested players, especially those at the grade 5/6 level, do not need to have a great deal of experience to take part

    The most important factor in participating in the Academy program is to simply be dedicated to improvement and committed to attend the scheduled sessions.

    The Head Coach for TCYBAs academy programs is Anthony Luyken. Anthony has served as a coach for Canada Basketball / BBC Centre for Performance and Basketball BCs Provincial Team. Coach Luyken is a former Assistant Coach at the University of the Fraser Valley.

    TCYBA hosts annual Spring Break Basketball Camps for boys and girls from Grades 3-8 of all skill levels.

    TCYBA Spring Break camps are designed for players looking to develop and improve their athleticism and basketball skills. These camps focus on developing the basic ABC’S of sport (Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed) and fundamental basketball skill development, including:

    • Defense
    • Attack & Counter One on One Moves
    • Team Play

    TCYBA Summer Camps

    TCYBA will be hosting its Summer Basketball Camps during selected weeks in July and August. Camps fill up quickly. 

    Coach to Player Ratio – 1:8. These camps are 4 to 5 days in duration and are designed for players looking to develop and improve their athleticism and basketball skills. These camps focus on developing the basic ABC’s of sport (Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed) and fundamental basketball skill development, including shooting, ball handling, passing, pivoting, defense, attack & counter one on one moves, and teaching team play.

    We welcome boys and girls from ages 10-15 years old of all skill levels to attend our Summer camp sessions.

    The Head Coach for TCYBA’s Summer camp programs is Anthony Luyken. Anthony has served as a coach for Canada Basketball / BBC Centre for Performance and Basketball BCs Provincial Team. Coach Luyken is a former Assistant Coach at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV).

    Targeted Athlete - Academy for Competitive Excellence (ACE)

    This is a TCYBA operated program focusing on the skill enhancement of selected players in a High-Performance Environment. While the ACE program is for more experienced players and is not suitable for players who haven’t played basketball previously, the most important factor in participating in the program is to simply be dedicated to improving your basketball skills and committed to attending the scheduled sessions.

    The program will be led by Anthony Luyken who has served as a coach for Canada Basketball / Basketball BC Centre for Performance, BC Targeted Athlete Strategy program and Basketball BCs Provincial Team coach. Additional assistant coaches may be taking part in the ACE sessions to ensure an appropriate coach to player ratio is maintained.

CLUB UNIFORMS – UPDATE FOR 2023-24 SEASON

Players who received the new style club uniforms in Fall/ Winter 2022-23 and Spring 2023 can reuse their existing jersey and shorts. If you choose to not receive a new jersey or pair of shorts for the upcoming season, you will receive a discount on the registration fee.

You can opt out of receiving the jersey and shorts separately. 

  • Discount for reusing last season’s jersey - $30
  • Discount for reusing last season’s shorts - $20

IMPORTANT NOTES

This only applies to the new style club uniforms issued last season (Fall/ Winter 2022/23 and Spring 2023). 

If you do not have the above style uniform, you will be required to order the new style uniform.

We will require that you provide the jersey number to prevent duplicating numbers. Please ensure you provide the correct jersey number.

TCYBA Refund Policy


Fall / Winter Season

  •  Registration Opening to August 31 - Regular league fee less $35 administration fee 
  •  September 1 to 15 - 50% reimbursement of regular league fee  
  • After September 15 - NO REFUND

Spring Season

  • Registration Opening to March 1 - Regular league fee less $35 administration fee 
  • March 1 to 15 - 50% reimbursement of regular league fee
  • After March 15 - NO REFUND 

Please note that while the TCYBA has written contracts confirming access to the facilities that are used for association training sessions, practices and games, due to unforeseen or extraordinary circumstances the facility provider can withdraw access to those facilities with or without notice to the association. In those cases, replacement sessions may not be possible and refunds will not be provided.

*Parents/players may apply for a full refund of registration fees, citing extraordinary circumstances. Such requests must be made in writing to the Board of Directors by emailing the Executive Director. The Board will consider such requests on an individual basis.

PLEASE NOTE – All registration transactions are subject to transaction and credit card processing fees charged by credit card companies and the vendors accepting payment using them. Transaction fees are collected and retained by those vendors for processing your registration and are not paid to or retained by the TCYBA and as such cannot be refunded by the TCYBA in situations that fall outside of the refund policies outlined above. In extraordinary situations where mass refunds must be issued by the TCYBA, a nominal administration fee may be applied to all refunds.

Provincial Return to Sport guidelines could be modified by the Provincial Health Office or the school districts in which we operate and a change to participation rules could occur. If TCYBA is forced to cancel training sessions, participants will receive a pro-rated refund relative to the number of outstanding sessions remaining and program organization costs that are expended. Any costs under $35 will not be refunded due to transaction and administrative costs involved.

Refunds will not be provided because of changes to, or an individual’s opinion of, health orders or participation guidelines from the Provincial Health Officer, viaSport or School Districts implemented by Tri-City Youth Basketball Association.

*Grade 9/10 Boys & Grade 11/12 Boys teams will play games on Saturdays. Refunds will not be provided for schedule conflicts with TCYBA games.

SERVING TRI-CITY YOUTH SINCE 1999

The Tri-City Youth Basketball Association (TCYBA) was formed in 1999 and is a registered, volunteer-driven, not-for-profit that serves the youth of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody (Tri-Cities) and surrounding areas in British Columbia, Canada. Currently we have well over 2000 players, from Kindergarten to grade 12, playing in various divisions including both competetive and recreational play. Open to both boys and girls, the club operates out of school gyms across the Tri-City area and strives to ensure all youth that want to enjoy the sport have an opportunity to participate
