League Registration — Frequently Asked Questions for Fall/Winter and Spring League Registration
Please contact our league registrar if you have any questions that are not answered on this page - registrar/at/tcyba.org. The following are some answers to frequently asked questions that may assist you and make the registration a smooth process:
For most grades there are two levels – What level do I sign my child up for?
New players to the TCYBA must register in the division in which their current grade, will be the highest grade listed– for example a new Grade 5 player to the TCYBA must register at the Grade 4/5 level. Grade 4’s registering at the Grade 4/5 level must have already played at least one season in the TCYBA and be physically ready to play with others that are their age and older. Exception: Players that are entering grade 2 may participate in the grade 2/3 division.
Parents of returning players may choose which division is most suited to their child’s development (both physically and emotionally). Coach’s children can be in either grade (even if they are new players to the TCYBA). There may be some discretion involved if a child has played in other organizations, etc. A request for an exception must be made in writing to the League Coordinator.
What if my first choice team is full or all the teams in my division are full?
If the team you want to be on or all the teams in your age group are full, please register to the waitlist for any of the teams that will work for your schedule. You may be on multiple waitlists.
If a space opens up on the team you are on the waitlist for, we will notify you by email.
We will also notify waitlisted players if a new teams opens and is available to register to.
What if I can’t register online – is there another way to register?

Can my child play on the same team as a friend?
We will do our best to provide the opportunity for friends to play together however it is subject to our first come, first served policy. All registrations must be completed online.
I may be interested in coaching this year. What training do you provide for coaches?
Our volunteer coaches are all provided with Steve Nash League specific basketball coaching instruction provided by highly qualified instructors. Additional training will also be available during the season – these opportunities are provided at no cost to the coaches. Coaches do not require any previous experience.
Please contact the Coaching Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in getting involved as a volunteer coach. The Coaching Coordinator will work with you to select a practice time/location that will fit into your schedule. Please contact the Coaching Coordinator ASAP to make arrangements for coaching a team.
How do I know which team to sign up for?
When you go online, you will be able to choose from a selection of teams that currently have space available. The location of the practice (school name), day of the week, and time will be listed on the Stack Sport Registration Site. Please refer to our FAQ on "How do I register?" for more information.
I do not live in the Tri-City area. Can I still register my child on a TCYBA team?
Due to the anticipated high enrollment and expansion of programming to areas outside of traditional TCYBA boundaries this year, priority registration will be provided to children who are taking part in programs within the areas that their families reside in. Returning players, their siblings and coach’s children are still allowed to join teams even if they reside outside of a specific area.
This regulation does not apply to teams that practice outside of the TCYBA or to teams that practice in the Tri-City area but have a coach who resides in a neighboring community.
I may be interested in assisting with the team, but am not comfortable taking on a role as coach. Where else can I help?
There are other roles for volunteers. You could offer to act as “team parent” for phoning/emailing and other duties or as a gym supervisor on game nights.
What if I am having trouble receiving communication emails from the League?

- ELITE TEAMS - How can I get more information on the Elite (Metro) Programs?
ELITE TEAMS - My child is interested in trying out for the one of the Elite (Metro) Division Teams – what opportunities are available?
Elite Team rosters for next season will be selected in May. Our Elite team program operates from September to April. We are currently offering teams at the following age groups for both boys and girls:
U12 - players must turn 12 on January 1, 2020 or later
U13 – players must turn 13 on January 1, 2020 or later
U14 – players must turn 14 on January 1, 2020 or later
Players must participate in the Elite team tryouts in order to be considered for one of the TCYBA teams.
ELITE TEAMS - When are the tryouts?
Tryouts for the 2020 Spring Elite teams will take place Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Montgomery Middle School. More info will be posted on our website once details are confirmed.
Players attending the tryouts are required to register in advance.

Jr. NBA Rookie Division (Kindergarten to Grade 2) NEW REGISTRATION FORMAT
The TCYBA Jr. NBA Rookie Division Program for Kindergarten to Grade 2 will be updating the registration process beginning in the Fall 2019 Season.
The program will be split into two - 8 week programs (previously we ran one 12 week program). The Fall Program will begin the week of September 30th and end after eight practices. The Winter Program will begin the week of January 6th and end after eight practices. A separate registration will need to be completed for each program. We will currently only be registering for the Fall Program and registration for the Winter Program will open end of November/early December.
SPRING - How do I register?
All players must be registered online. CLICK HERE to register now!
If your family is new to the league, your first chance to register (unless you want to coach a team) will be on February 28th.
Returning players from Fall/Winter 2019/20 and Spring 2019 may register in the appropriate Phases that are outlined on the Registration Page of our website.
Returning players that did not play in Fall/Winter 2019/20 or Spring 2019 can begin registering February 28th.
All registration phases will open at 6:00 AM. Payment can be made by Visa or MasterCard. Unfortunately, at this time Stack Sports is unable to accept Visa Debit
SPRING - What are my chances of getting a spot in the league?
Priority for registration does go to returning players from Fall/ Winter 2019/20 and then Spring 2019 who have the opportunity to pre-register. New players whose parent is coaching the team will also be guaranteed enrollment.
Any returning players who miss the February 7th-26th Advance Registration period will not have priority over new players once our Open Registration begins on February 28th.
SPRING - What is included in the registration fee?
New registrants will receive a basketball *, a reversible jersey, a pair of shorts, gym times for practices and games as well as Jr.NBA membership (which includes insurance).
Returning Players in the Grade 2/3 to 11/12 Levels are offered a discount for registration, as they have already received a uniform and basketball*.
* Participants in the Grade 9/10 and 11/12 boys & girls divisions do not receive a basketball.
SPRING - What is our refund policy?
Spring 2020 season
- Registration Opening until March 15 - Regular League fee less a $25 administration fee
- March 16 to 28 - 50% reimbursement of regular league fee
- As of March 29 - NO REFUND
*Parents/players may apply for a full refund of registration fees, citing extraordinary circumstances. Such requests must be made in writing to the Board of Directors by emailing the Executive Director. The Board will consider such requests on an individual basis.
A full refund of regular registration fees will be provided where a player chooses to withdraw due to a change in practice time/location initiated by the league. Such refunds will not be assessed an administration fee.
*PLEASE NOTE - GRADE 9/10 BOYS & GRADE 11/12 BOYS TEAMS WILL PLAY GAMES ON SATURDAYS. REFUNDS WILL NOT BE PROVIDED FOR SCHEDULE CONFLICTS WITH TCYBA GAMES.

SPRING - What is the time commitment for my child in a week?
Children in the Junior NBA Rookie group (Kindergarten to Grade 2)
- One (1 hour) practice session per week (no games).
Children in the Grade 2/3 group
- One (1 hour) practice session per week (no games).
Children in Grade 3/4 and up
- One (1 hour) practice session per week PLUS
- One (Friday night) game per week starting April 24th until June 5th*
Grade 9/10 & 11/12 boys
- One (1 hour) practice session per week PLUS
- One (Saturday) game per week starting April 25th until June 6th
SPRING - When does the league start?
The Spring league practices will begin the week of April 6th, and will finish the week of June 1st
There are no practices or games on Statutory Holidays or District-wide Pro-D days. An exception to this will be made for scheduling any make-up games as required.
Games will start on Friday, April 24th for the Grade 3/4 to Girls Grade 9+ Divisions (no games for the Grade 2/3 teams).
Boys Grade 9/10 & 11/12 Division games will start on Saturday, April 25th .
SPRING - Where will the games be played?
The games will be played at various schools around the Tri-City area. The game locations are subject to times and locations that are provided by the School Board.
Game schedules will be circulated in early April.
League games will commence April 24th
Games are one hour in length taking place from 5:00 pm and 9:30 pm (as late as 10 pm for the older players).
There are no games or practices on District-Wide Pro-D days and Statutory Holidays.
