Girls Only Basketball Academy at Pinetree Community Centre

Calling all young female athletes in grades 5 to 8! Take your game to the next level with our Girls Only Basketball Academy, held Sundays from 1:00 – 2:45 PM at Pinetree Community Centre in Coquitlam.

Led by Lauren Tomlinson—an elite team coach and standout player for Capilano University Women’s Basketball—this program is a unique opportunity to train with an experienced university-level athlete and mentor who knows what it takes to excel on and off the court.

Saturday Skill Development Academies at Moody Middle

Get ready to elevate your game this fall with the Tri-City Youth Basketball Association Skill Academies! Our upcoming program runs Saturdays from October 18 to December 6, offering players a unique opportunity to learn, grow, and compete under the guidance of an internationally acclaimed coach.

Leading the Academy is Coach Luka Vukalovic, a globally seasoned basketball professional with over 25 years of coaching experience across Europe, Asia, and North America. Luka has developed elite youth and varsity talent, guiding teams to championship success in Serbia, China, Portugal, and Canada.

His impressive résumé includes:

• Assistant coaching roles with Capilano University and University of the Fraser Valley
• Head Coach of the NBA Yao Ming Basketball Club in Beijing

Luka’s teaching philosophy blends tactical precision, motivational leadership, and a passion for player development. His athletes have gone on to compete at NCAA and professional levels. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, a FIBA coaching license, and multiple certifications in safe sport ensuring a positive, high-quality experience for every participant.

Congratulations to TCYBA referee Ben Tong for receiving the ‘Most Improved Official’ award from the GVBOA for the 2024/2025 season. GVBOA stands for ‘Greater Vancouver Basketball Officials Association’ and trains officials all across Vancouver. Here’s what they had to say about Ben:

“He has consistently improved every year for the last 6 years, his love for basketball and passion for learning shows on the court. His achievements at the provincial level this season is nothing short of Amazing: Jr.
Boys Semi’s/ Sr. Girls AA Quarter- Finals and Semi- Finals/ Sr. Girls A Gold Medal Game. We asked Ben: Why did you start officiating basketball? Ben’s answer: Officiating basketball is something I enjoy because it combines so many things I value. I love the game itself-the fast pace, the strategy, and the energy on the court. About Our Elite Program

The Elite Division at TCYBA is suited to advanced-level players who wish to further develop their basketball skills in a more competitive atmosphere and are willing to commit to more practice time and a higher level of competition.

Elite Season & Commitment

The Elite season will begin the week of April 7 and end the week of July 7, pending tournament participation details.

U11 and U16 players practice 2 x 1.5 hours per week, along with weekend games and tournaments (tournaments to be finalized with coach).

U12 to U15 players practice 2 x 2 hours per week, along with weekend games and tournaments (tournaments to be finalized with coach).

Exciting Elite Team Coaching Opportunities Available!

As we prepare for our Spring Elite season, we are looking for enthusiastic coaches with prior coaching certifications or experience to join our diverse coaching team. There are openings within our U11-U15 female and male programs. This is a fantastic opportunity to share your knowledge with young athletes eager to grow in the sport, all while getting paid for your valuable contribution!

Our Spring season runs from April to July and offers fully customizable scheduling to accommodate your availability. Congratulations to the Tri-City U14 Elite boys team on placing first in the BCCBA basketball league. They went 6-0 in the regular season and remained undefeated throughout the post season. This group has been on of the most successful teams in our elite program and is continuing on in the BC champions league through this winter. Good luck in the rest of your season!

Holiday Hoops Skills Camp

The TCYBA Holiday Skills camps are designed for players looking to develop their athleticism and improve their offensive skills. The camps will focus on:

Holiday Hoops Shooting Camp

This camp provides participants with a focused opportunity to develop your shot. Participants will learn the foundational pieces of good shooting mechanics and take part in drills and competitions designed to enhance their shooting form and ability to effectively shoot the basketball.

· Session 1 (Boys and Girls Grade 6 - 12): Dec 30 (9:00 am – 11:45 am) - $50.00

· Session 2 (Boys and Girls Grade 6 - 12): Dec 30 (12:15 pm – 3:00 pm) - $50.00

Registration

All Holiday Hoops camps will take place at Pinetree Community Centre Court #3 located at 1260 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam, BC V3B 7Z4.

Each camp has a maximum enrollment of 24 players. These sessions will fill quickly so if you are interested, please register right away to avoid disappointment.

Because both programs involve individual skill development and not game situations, all sessions will be co-ed.

All camp participants must bring their own basketball and water bottle to their session.
