GRADE 4/5 DEVELOPMENT TEAM

This league is designed to enhance players' skill levels in a fun and recreational setting. Each team participates in one practice session per week, lasting for one hour, and engages in one game per week, typically on Friday nights. Players have the flexibility to register for any team based on their preferences for location, day, time, and coach, aligning with their appropriate grade level as per TCYBA Registration policies that prioritize returning players.

Players interested in the Development level are not required to attend evaluation sessions. However, it is important to note that new players must play at their grade level and are not allowed to play in higher-grade levels. For example, new grade 4 players must participate in the 3/4 level and cannot play in the 4/5 level. This policy ensures fair competition and appropriate skill development among players of similar age and ability.

PARENT COACHES

The TCYBA depends on parent volunteers to coach teams within the league. In the grade 4/5 division, each team will require a minimum of 2 parents who can contribute to the academy sessions initially and eventually take on the responsibilities of team coaching in the new year. If you are interested and available to volunteer in this role, please visit our coaching page. Your involvement as a parent coach is greatly appreciated and plays a vital role in the success of the league.

WE ALWAYS NEED WILLING COACHES

Experienced or not, if you bring enthusiasm, we'll provide the guidance and tools for your successful season. We understand coaching can be intimidating for newcomers, but TCYBA is dedicated to helping you succeed with your team. We offer weekly practice plans and a system for coach development to ensure a balanced player development. Online resources are available to enhance coaching skills for both new and seasoned coaches. Together, we can make a positive impact on our players' growth.

The Tri-City Youth Basketball Association (TCYBA) was formed in 1999 and is a volunteer-driven registered not-for-profit that serves the youth of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody (Tri-Cities), New Westminster, Burnaby and surrounding areas in British Columbia, Canada. Currently, we have well over 2000 players, from Kindergarten to grade 12, playing in various divisions including both competitive Elite programs and recreational play. We offer academies, camps, official's development paths and coaching clinics in partnership with various local, provincial and national partners. Open to both boys and girls, the club operates out-of-school gyms across the Tri-City area and strives to ensure all youth that want to enjoy the sport have an opportunity to participate. We believe that youth sport is critical to a child's development and the opportunity to build skills for both the sport and for life should be available to all of our community's youth.
