We ask that you respect the schools’ property at all times and adhere to the following rules:

Gym Entry & Protocols

Before entering a gym for practices and games, teams AND spectators need to wait for the previous group to exit the gym before entering the gym.

Food/Drink - there is NO food or drink of any kind allowed in the gym, except water.

Footwear – Players are expected to wear appropriate footwear in gyms. Outdoor footwear tracks dirt, water and debris into the gyms and is therefore restricted. Each player should have a separate pair of indoor-only athletic shoes that are only worn on the basketball court and should be changed into upon entering the facility. Only gym and non-marking shoes should be used within the gymnasiums. No heels or hard-heeled outdoor footwear may be worn on the playing surface.

Animals - No live animals are allowed in schools or gyms for any practice or game (except for Service or Guide Dogs). A government-issued certificate or other documentation showing the dog has been suitably trained may be requested.

Substance Use - Smoking (including all tobacco, cannabis and vapour products) is strictly forbidden in all areas of the Facility, in accordance with AP 171 Tobacco and Vapour Free Environment. Also prohibited is the use of an e-cigarette or holding an activated e-cigarette on School property. This applies to all individuals, whether minors or adults.

Parking – Attendees must park in designated stalls as indicated by pre-painted lines and must not block or impede access to garbage, recycling, organics bins, fire lanes or parking lot gates. Please do not park in the school’s drive-thru or on neighbourhood streets around the school property to keep space available for residents. Cars will be towed if they impede school operations.

We rely heavily on our positive relationships with the schools and a school can deny us access if they feel these rules are not being strictly followed at all times.

Parent Volunteers

The Development League at TCYBA is volunteer-based. Our head coaches, assistant coaches and team managers spend countless hours committing their time to ensure the smooth operation of their team, including attending meetings, preparing practice plans and often enhancing their coaching skills through personal development, all to provide an opportunity for your children to learn and play basketball.

Often, your team only has a head coach and no assistant coach or team manager. Sometimes, coaches can’t be at a practice or game due to a work conflict, illness or other personal reasons. During those times, they need assistance from other parents on the team to keep score (higher divisions), run the subs on the bench at games, send out team communications, run a practice or even pick up needed team equipment and uniforms. When coaches request your help, please lend a hand to make it easier for them. Remember, if they don’t volunteer to coach, your child may not have an opportunity to play.

We thank our many coaches and team managers for their time. It is greatly appreciated and plays a vital role in the success of our league.

Photo Day – November 1st

TCYBA Photo Day is scheduled for:

  • Saturday, November 1

  • Poirier Sports & Leisure Centre

Applies to: Grade 3/4 – Grade 8 teams

This is the only photo session — no retakes or make-up days. Coaches will book time slots starting in October. Final schedule will be shared by mid-October.

TCYBA QUICK LINKS

tcyba logo

The Tri-City Youth Basketball Association (TCYBA) was formed in 1999 and is a volunteer-driven registered not-for-profit that serves the youth of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody (Tri-Cities), New Westminster, Burnaby and surrounding areas in British Columbia, Canada. Currently, we have well over 2000 players, from Kindergarten to grade 12, playing in various divisions including both competitive Elite programs and recreational play. We offer academies, camps, official's development paths and coaching clinics in partnership with various local, provincial and national partners. Open to both boys and girls, the club operates out-of-school gyms across the Tri-City area and strives to ensure all youth that want to enjoy the sport have an opportunity to participate. We believe that youth sport is critical to a child's development and the opportunity to build skills for both the sport and for life should be available to all of our community's youth.
